What We Believe
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and our final authority for faith and life. Our aim is to preach Christ clearly, teach the Scriptures carefully, and call people to repentance and faith in the gospel.
Grace Community Church is baptistic in heritage and convictions, gospel-centered in message, and missions-minded in practice. We hold a premillennial and pretribulational understanding of the Lord’s return, and we seek to live in joyful submission to the truth of God’s Word.

Leadership
Pastor James J. Burke is the senior pastor of Grace Community Church in Marinette, Wisconsin. His ministry is centered on Christ-exalting, verse-by-verse preaching and helping believers grow deep in the Scriptures. In addition to serving the church, he also writes and teaches through the Fireproof Commentaries ministry, a verse-by-verse resource designed to strengthen the local church.
James and his wife, Roxanne, have served faithfully for many years in small-church ministry and are deeply committed to helping ordinary believers stand firm in the Word of God.
Pastor Tom MacKay serves as Associate Pastor. He brings decades of pastoral experience and a deep love for expository, verse-by-verse preaching through the books of the Bible. He and his wife, Francine, have been married for many years and have been a steady blessing to the church through their faithful ministry.
Our Story
Grace Community Church traces its roots back to Swedish immigrants who came to Marinette in the 1800s and established a congregation known as The Swedish Baptist Church. In those early years, services were held in Swedish as the church ministered to a growing immigrant community.
Over time, as English became the common language of the congregation and the church continued to develop, the name was changed to Bethel Baptist. That name remained for many years. At the turn of this century, the congregation desired to reflect its broader community identity and formally became Grace Community Church.
Though the name has changed over the years, the heart of the church has remained the same: to preach the gospel, teach the Word of God as truth, and reach our community with the grace of Christ.
Teaching & Resources
At Grace Community Church, the ministry of the Word extends beyond Sunday morning. Through our sermon archive and Grace Notes articles, we seek to provide clear, biblical teaching for everyday life.
Some of Pastor James Burke’s verse-by-verse teaching resources are also available through Fireproof Commentaries. These resources exist to support believers, encourage pastors, and strengthen the local church through careful exposition of Scripture.
